VALENCIA POLITICIANS RECEIVED BY POPE

Francisco Camps, President of the Valencian Government, Rita Barbera, Mayoress of Valencia, and Alfonso Rus, chairman of the Valencia County Council, accompanied by Cardinal Archbishop Agustin Garcia-Gasco, and by Esteban Escudero, auxiliary bishop of Valencia, were received in private audience by Pope Benedict XVI in the Vatican in Rome.

During the visit, the Valencian leaders presented the Pope with a 400 page publication containing photos and speeches from a visit by his Holiness to Valencia in July 2006 when he presided the V World Meeting of Families. The book was co-ordinated by Pedro J. Viladrich, director of the Institute of Science for Families in the University of Navarre.

The Pope was also presented with a large handcrafted ceramics platter from Manises.


GANDIA PLA WINE CELLAR INTRODUCES ENO TOURISM

Maritina Hernandez, Councillor of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food, presided the inauguration of ENO tourism by the Gandia Pla wine cellar, that will enable visitors become acquainted with the culture of fine wine.

ENO tourism includes a visit to the wine production cellar, a sampling of three different wines, and a tour of the vineyards in a small train.

THE DAY OF THE ENTREPRENEUR

Matias Perez, Autonomic Secretary of Industry, Trade, and Innovation, presented the third edition of the Day of the Entrepreneur, accompanied by Daniel Moragues, director of the IMPIVA, and Rafael Ferrando, chairman of CIERVAL.


TRY LATEST FASHIONS ON A VIRTUAL BODY

Bruno Broseta, director general of Industry, Trade, and Innovation, presented the human scanner and the virtual trier on of clothes of the attraction "You are the measure of everything" part of the exposition "We take care of your quality of life" in the Prince Felipe Science Museum in the City of the Arts and Science in Valencia.

This scanner permits the public try on the latest creations of Valencian fashion designers.


JULIO GONZALEZ AWARD FOR MIGUEL NAVARRO

Trini Miro, Councillor of Culture and Sports, gave the Julio Gonzalez 2008 award to Valencian artist Miguel Navarro.

EUROCOPA 2008 FOR VALENCIA

Trini Miro, Councillor of Culture and Sports, signed an agreement to organise in Valencia the Euro Cup 2008 of indoor football the 30th and 31st May, and the 1st June 2008, in which Germany, Italy, France, Russia, Holland, and Spain, will compete. Alfredo di Stefano, chairman of the Association of International Footballers, and Alvaro Garrido, representing the Football Indoor Events Company, were also present at the signing ceremony.

The agreement included the celebration of the Spain Cup 2009, and the World Cup 2010 in the Valencian Region.


NEW YACHT "PASSION FOR CASTELLON-AZAHAR COAST"

Vicente Rambla, Councillor of Presidency, presented the new yacht "Passion for Castellon-Azahar Coast" that will compete in the main regattas in Spain to promote the tourist image of Castellon, after signing an agreement with the County Council and the Town Hall of Castellon in which each agreed to subsidise the yacht with 30,000 euro to be paid to the Yacht Sharing S.L. company.


VALENCIA TOURISM TAKES STEPS IN LONDON

Victoria Palau, Valencian Government Autonomic Secretary of Tourism, accompanied by Ignacio Vasallo, director of the office of Spanish tourism in London. attended the VIII edition of the tourism show Steps in London where Valencia has a stand to promote tourism in the region.

In 2007, a total of 2,551,782 British tourists visited the Valencian Region - an increase of 7% in overnight stays compared to previous years, and with 89% choosing Benidorm as their destination.


FIAT STILO ABARTH AUTOMATIC CARS - A WARNING TO DRIVERS

We advise our readers that a fault in the electronic system of the gear shift of Fiat automatic drive cars, causes sudden stoppages that can produce whiplash to the driver. This has been the experience of our editor while driving an automatic Fiat Stilo Abarth. The stoppages are also highly dangerous if they take place when passing out another vehicle, or in heavy traffic.
